We were assigned to experiment by covering the lightbulb on the lazy susan in different ways. I mainly experimented with different cuts and the paper by folding the paper to make it more round, crumple the paper and cutting the paper up.

Experimentation with overlays of cuts
Using folds to create a curved form that covers the light
Using folds to wrap the light around

We were given a certain context that day and were asked to mainly experiment with materials and create models. The context I was given was “navigating a path”

I first started thinking in the context. I thought it would be easier to think of ideas if I have a set criteria for what I want my light to generally be like.

The first thing that came to mind for me when I thought of navigation lights were small multiple lights aligned in a hallway. They do not have to literally guide a person in a certain direction because people can actually walk in both directions..

I started by creating a standard light and brainstormed from there by branching out from different ideas from this light. Then I experimented with folds by adding a half eclipse fold on either side of the cylinder.

For the next prototype I thought in a context of a standing light that would reflect in the direction of the path and help guide a person.

What I noticed when I was creating several of these iterations was they did not always lined up with the sketches I had created. I would have to still have make alterations as I made there.

Do not make it overly complicated, so it is not distracting to the audience.

Based on the feedback s

Although I do not have to make the light literally indicate direction the shape it could be misinterpreted.

Revisions:

Make the middle area the longest so it is more balanced in the center

Hide the cord from being visible

Make it a bit smaller

Find different paper to make the lighting structure more sturdier

Bigger bulb so structure brighter

feedback :

proportion

make it smaller

change the shape right now rectangle

Something definitely harder compared to the previous projects was because the context was really up to interpretation. Instead of getting right into creating models I started by thinking about the criteria for a navigation light which was

Got a new bulb with 100 watts and so tried it out

2nd iteration

Some pros of covering the top and bottom were that the form looked more put together as the front fold did not jet out as much however that also meanttop and bottom

dismantled the top and bottom and tried playing with the form

3rd(final iteration)
